"Me"
Don't worry, though, she always returns from her fairy land to take care of her babies and give them snuggles ... Ke ke Ka Ka Lou Lee La La (!) and Baby Ruthie, among others, need her, after all. And, if they sass their little mama, she does not hesitate to discipline them. "Me takes away Ke Ke Ka Ka Lou Lee La La's milk cuz she blowed bubbles in she cup. She no do dat. Dat's rude."

big ole week
we, reppards, had a big ole week over here . . . specifically, hudson had a big ole week! we started out the week with an adventure in the medical world. hudson didn’t do too well on his 4 year old vision screening at his check up, so we snagged him an appointment with william’s eye doctor . . . and, lo and behold, hudsey is getting glasses!
William, Hudson, and I were at the eye doctor for OVER TWO HOURS getting check ups for both boys. All in all, they did very well. Being in the eye doctor’s office with two four year olds is not my idea of a great activity for a Monday morning, but we pushed through. Hudson made himself right at home!
And, when you get your eyes dilated for the first time, you need to take drastic measures to see . . .
After our morning adventure, we dropped William with Anna and Sugie, and we hit the stores. After trying to convince this boy to NOT touch everything in his sight, we finally settled on a pair of frames for this handsome man! The glasses are on order (and, fear not, we went ahead and got two pair—I know these boys and their glasses!) and they should be here in the next week or so.
You may remember our reward for the glasses hunt . . . and, I say our reward, because I need a treat as much as they do after the glasses hunt has ended (and, after Monday’s events, I could have even used a shot of Kahlua in my milkshake!) . . .
Remember this little guy the day he got his glasses? Looking back at these pictures makes me want to cry! He was TINY!!
And, Huds and I enjoyed ourselves a shake and some fries on Monday as well! Some traditions die hard!
Tuesday came and went and I can’t remember what happened that day . . . the evening events of Tuesday left me so exhausted that I blocked them out of my memory. Our attempt to encourage our boys to play basketball did not go as planned.
one refused to play
one (who couldn’t) wanted to play
and, the third, was about 50/50
at no point did I imagine myself on the basketball court with my child, and I’m pretty sure Hatch didn’t anticipate this awesomeness either!
I have high hopes--probably too high--for next week . . .
But, Wednesday, I remember. Yes, I remember Wednesday. Wednesday is the ONE morning where all three of my precious little children head on their merry little way to preschool for fun and playing and stickers and giggles on the playground. But, this Wednesday, they cancelled school due to weather. We looked outside and it was raining. And, then, we looked again, and SNOW. An early March snow storm that stopped us in our tracks and kept us home . . . baking up a storm and then having an adventure outside!
These three were hard at work “making cookbooks”
We eventually put on snowpants over our jammies and headed to the great (cold and wet) outdoors . . .
the sled was the perfect way for Anna to be outside and not be in the snow: “me no yike dat. me willy cold. me fa-weezin’”
assessing the yard, the snow, and the snowball fight in front of her!
and, our first snow man! they were SO VERY PROUD! I love this picture so much, and I love the snow man—it makes me laugh just to look at him. When we went back inside, William looked up at me and asked: “Mom, is our snow man alive?!?”
After our snowman time, we went down to the creek with some neighbors and threw snowballs into the water. It was a wild time . . . and, well, it accomplished our mission . . . sister was sacked out after her afternoon of being “willy willy cold out dere.”
On Thursday, the snow was melting, so we dropped the boys off at school after their snow delay and Anna, Aunt Katie, and Jakie and I headed to Lynchburg for the day to visit our great aunt and uncle—A Monny and Uncle Fred. Our goal was to help them pack and sort through things in their home as they prepare to move to Richmond in a few weeks! (Lucky us!) I’m not sure how much help we were, but we had so much fun being at their home again and reminiscing . . . and, well, it’s just sweet to introduce a new generation to our favorite bench and the front steps that have held so so many family pictures over the years!
{sidenote: my sister took these three pictures, and I have no idea what she did in this first one to make Anna look so grown up. but, I don’t like it! I don’t like it one bit!}
Friday came with a thud! I was so tired, and well, when mama is tired, it’s hard to get out of bed. And, then, I get attacked, and this happens:
(while this picture is blurry, it is one of my favorites of these rascals because it captures such perfect and typical expressions of these two!)
And, believe it or not, no one got hurt until the afternoon! Anna was napping while William and Hudson were playing outside, and I was in and out. William ran in and told me that Hudson’s chin was bleeding and that he needed help—he had fallen and hit his chin on a board! So I scooped him up, William was tremendously helpful to me and to Hudson, I called a neighbor who came over in about 90 seconds, and off we went to the ER. Our very FIRST Emergency Room visit. I knew this day would come. I knew it would. I just didn’t anticipate it being today. And, well, my Hudsey handled it like a champion. He ended up with 5 stitches on the outside of his (upper) chin and 3 stitches inside of his mouth. And, after the initial fall, he did not cry. I wanted to cry, but I managed to hold myself together since my four year old son was being tremendously brave. The doctors and nurses were amazed by him. I was amazed, too. Hudson was a trooper . . . and quite excited to watch several hours of uninterrupted television. I have a hunch that he is going to be sore tomorrow and that one of his favorite activities (eating) may be disrupted a bit. All in all, we are so thankful that he is okay, that he will heal quickly, that we have easy access to great medical care, and that we have amazing friends and family who run to our rescue at a moment’s notice!
he got to watch tv, and I got to snuggle my boy in the hospital bed for the afternoon!
while you can’t really tell much from this picture, we were making funny faces here . . .
poor lovey
Please pray for a speedy recovery for this little trooper!
And, with that--and new glasses and a handful of stitches—let’s draw this week to a close! And, thank God for Saturdays!
